High blood pressure can be dangerous to many parts of your body. Eating the foods that are known to lower blood pressure is easy.

Recent research has shown that red beets can lower blood pressure. We used to eat them every week when I was a child. We stored them in the ‘root cellar’ and had them fresh. My mother was fond of making Harvard Beets and pickled beets. You can also grate fresh beets into salads or salad dressing, add them to stews and soups. Eat them raw, baked, roasted, or boiled. Cooled roasted beets make a great addition to salads.

Dr. Ahluwalia at the London School of Medicine did extensive research that was published in 2008 showing that when the patients drank 500 mL (2 cups) of fresh beet juice it reduced their blood pressure after about 1 hour and continued to do so for several hours later. After 24 hours the effects were still seen. And there were no side effects.

Beets also contain a compound called betacyanin which is known to be a cancer fighter. In Europe in the 1970s there were many cancer clinics that used a raw food diet, exercise, and a kilogram of beets juiced up before each meal.

Apples have also been known to help lower blood pressure. A fabulous salad of apples, roasted beets, and dark green leafy vegetables with a touch fresh garlic, olive oil, and lemon on it is a great tasting way to help keep blood pressure low.

Slow deep breathing can also lower your blood pressure in minutes. You have to breathe less than 10 times a minute so you will have to count the inhalation and exhalations. Try walking and breathing, use a count of about ten steps for the inhalation and 20 steps for the exhalation. You can increase the count if you want, the slower and deeper you breathe the more you can reduce your blood pressure.

I suggested this to a man I met at a trade show who actually looked gray in the face. He did the slow deep breathing for a few minutes and his blood pressure came down so much so that he actually had color in his face again, and it wasn’t gray. Every half hour or so he did a few minutes of slow deep breathing. He was like a new man. He really changed with just that few minutes of deep breathing.

If you have high blood pressure always check with your doctor before trying anything new. Please add beets and slow deep breathing to your daily routine, you’ll be surprised how much better you will feel.

Vegetables contain plant sterols, phytosterols. The one that has been researched the most for cholesterol lowering effect is beta-sitosterol.

Dr. David Jenkins of the University of Toronto has done research for more than 20 years on using the dietary portfolio to lower cholesterol, reduce C-reactive protein, and reduce the risk of heart disease. The dietary portfolio includes soy foods (make sure they are organic for the best health results); nuts and seeds such as almonds, sunflower and sesame seeds; and the viscous fibers of oats, barley, and psyllium seeds as well as the vegetables eggplant and okra.

Clinical trials were done comparing statin drugs to the dietary portfolio and in every case the statins reduced the low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels almost as effectively as the dietary portfolio. In the first month Lovastatin reduced LDL-C 30% while the dietary portfolio reduced LDL-C 28.6%. (JAMA 2003). In 2011 Dr. David Jenkins, et al, published research conducted on 351 participants from June 2007 to February 2009. (JAMA 2011) This study showed that the dietary portfolio resulted in greater reductions in LDL-C than a low-fat diet.

Plant sterols have a similar structure to cholesterol and when ingested with meals can take the place of cholesterol during digestion leaving the cholesterol to be expelled from the body and not absorbed.

The typical Western Diet contains between 150-400 mg of phytosterols. At least 2 g (2,000 mg) are needed to obtain similar results in cholesterol reduction.

Please eat more vegetables and sprouted grains, nuts, and seeds.

Drugs & Death

Drug pushers are everywhere in the city where I live, you can’t avoid them.

The latest research shows that millions of people in the United States die from
drug related consequences every year. It’s really serious and I think something
should be done immediately!

When this drug culture was not as big and wide spread, there were a lot more
healthier people who had more available cash to spend on things like food,
clothing, and entertainment.

Won’t you join me in ridding your neighborhood of this drug culture of pushers and
enablers?

How You Ask?

Turn back to a time before pharmaceutical drugs became a way of life at great
expense to our bodies, minds, and the environment.

Eat more vegetables: at least 2 or 3 full cups a day & a lot of it raw

Eat frequently: start by eating within a half hour of getting up

Have frequent small snacks during the day. Use your vegetable allowance as small
snacks like carrot, celery, zucchini, pepper, and broccoli sticks

Include sources of good fats by eating coconut butter and oil, nuts & nut butters
like cashew & almond, & seeds like flax, sesame, or sunflower

Use foods & herbs as your medicine. Read up on various old home remedies. If
you have a cough blend a potion of equal parts organic lemon juice &
organic honey. You might also want to add freshly squeezed ginger juice,
cayenne pepper powder, or ground cinnamon. All of these are healing foods for a
sore throat or cough.

Eat lots of green foods like kale, dandelion & collard greens, purslane, cress,
Moringa, sprouts, and spirulina.

These foods have healing properties that fit better with your body because they are
the foods we were meant to eat to sustain us.

Take Charge of your body, mind, & spirit by shunning the chemical drugs and OTC remedies & make your body so strong &
healthy that you won’t need those dangerous drugs.

If you would like to receive recipes of easy-to-follow meals and snacks, email me
& I’ll put you on my free newsletter list for recipes.

“Oranges stop thievery” was the title of an article from a British newspaper that a client brought to me in the nutrition clinic years ago. The idea they came up with was that people who haven’t eaten, people with low blood sugar, would not be able to tell right from wrong and by handing out oranges for them to eat before they entered a department store it would bring up their blood sugar and prevent them from stealing things.

This is not science fiction. Every part of your body needs blood sugar for fuel so it can function, including your brain. Blood sugar comes from food. This project sounded sensible but hard to control. I often wonder when I hear about famous people being caught shoplifting if they have eaten before they go shopping. Coffee, sugar, and tobacco products can create a false rise in blood sugar that can bring it down again quickly and create a ‘low blood sugar’ problem that would, in some cases, prevent the person from being able to tell right from wrong and/or allow them to be tempted by the thrill of getting away with taking something.

Many health challenges like fibromyalgia, poor digestion, stress reactions, suppressed immune function, depression, heart burn, frequent colds, chronic pain, and even diabetes can often be helped when a proper lifestyle is followed.

So movie stars, kleptomaniacs, and anyone tempted to steal, take note: it can be as simple as stabilizing your blood sugar. Eat an hour before you shop. For details and instructions read: The Anger Cure, A Step-by-Step Program to Reduce Anger, Rage, Negativity, Violence, and Depression in Your Life. Basic Health Publications.

Kathleen O’Bannon, CNC, is the author of 10 books on nutrition. She can be contacted through her web site: www.healthaliveproducts.com.

Sprouts, the savory source for health and vitality is now published in Polish and Portuguese. Thanks Alive Books for spreading the word for me on the health-giving aspects of sprouts. This book has become a best-seller for me around the world. If you want to know how to make sprouts or what the nutritional value is of more than 30 different kinds of sprouts, this is the book for you. Fenugreek sprouts are one of my favorites because they can remove mucus from the intestines and help with blood sugar problems.

Reporters and newscasters often have trouble speaking. In holistic nutrition we have some different ideas of what causes problems like this.
It could be from low blood sugar. Here are some of the symptoms that might happen if one’s blood sugar drops:
•	Confusion Headaches
•	Poor coordination Blurred vision
•	Forgetfulness Exhaustion
It could be caused by yeast problems. Here are some of the symptoms that might happen if one’s body is overgrown with yeast:
•	Memory loss Feeling spacey
•	Anxiety Poor concentration
•	Excessive sweating Mood swings
There are more symptoms related to each of these health challenges, but the real solution is to eat right, eat on time, and avoid the foods and beverages that might contribute to either of these problems like caffeine, nicotine, sugar, fried foods, leftovers, and moldy and/or fermented foods. Some people react to soya sauce and even mushrooms.
If you are having trouble with any of these problems please consider seeing a holistic health practitioner like a naturopath, nutrition minded chiropractor, or CAM practitioner. (This should not take the place of seeing your regular doctor.)
Sometimes something as simple as eating breakfast can help you avoid memory loss, confusion, and poor concentration. For more information on the other symptoms of these two health challenges see my book: The Anger Cure, A Step-by-Step Program to Reduce Anger, Rage, Negativity, Violence, and Depression in Your Life. It could change your life.

Is it safe for teens to have these injections? Nobody knows. I do know it should not be necessary for beauty to have these injections. Have we come to a place in life where teens don’t want to show facial expressions? If all their forehead muscles are paralyzed how will they show emotions? It’s almost like turning teens into zombies letting them have these injections.

There is a huge reason why teens have wrinkles and deep lines on their faces and it is their nutrition!

When I was young we didn’t have fast food and junk food and processed foods like now and nobody had these facial wrinkles in high school. Our high school had a fruit machine where we could get fresh apples and pears. We had access to antioxidants daily from fruits and vegetables. Oxidation can cause wrinkles and deep lines on the face and antioxidants help to keep the skin supple so that it doesn’t have wrinkles and lines.

Most people in my neighborhood had gardens with lots of fresh veggies and fruits, we even ate liver. Snacks were carrot and celery sticks or pieces of apple, not fried things. And we didn’t have wrinkles or deep lines on our faces.

We even ate nuts. A study published in the journal Cancer Causes and Control in July 2010 showed that women who ate 2 servings or more a week of nuts as teens had a 36% lower risk of breast disease as adults than those who didn’t. Unroasted and unsalted fresh nuts contain fatty acids that feed your skin and help to prevent wrinkles and deep lines.

Nuts and seeds are part of a healthy diet along with fresh fruits and vegetables. Feed you skin with the foods that supply antioxidants and you won’t need these injections.

Smoking can create wrinkles because it robs your skin of moisture.

But one of the worst things is to use creams and lotions that contain petroleum. Most baby oils and mineral oils are made from petroleum. Petroleum strips off all the natural skin oils that protect your skin and your immune system and cause dry skin and wrinkles. So they actually force you to keep using them to supply the oils they have stripped off.

So the key to healthy skin and that doesn’t need injections is to eat at least 6-10 servings a day of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. If you eat grains eat whole unrefined grains. Avoid smoking and products that strip your skin of valuable oils. Eat Right…Feel Right!

Last week on the Frankie Boyer radio show I talked about foenugreek sprouts (also spelled fenugreek). They are so good for you! They are known to expel mucus from the intestines and stabilize blood sugar. Many people in India drink fenugreek tea to help with blood sugar problems. My Super Sprouts Immune Enhancer formula contains them to help people with all kinds of autoimmune and immune problems get help and ease the symptoms.

You can also grow fenugreek sprouts and put them on salads or add them to other meals. They don’t last long after the initial sprouting even in the refrigerator, so you will want to eat them up immediately after they sprout; then watch for the results. If you don’t know how to make sprouts you will find complete instructions in Sprouts, the Savory Source for Health and Vitality.(www.healthalive.net)

Today was a great day for radio interviews. I did two of them. I love doing radio. Who am I kidding? I live for radio and TV, it’s my passion. There are so many great radio shows that talk about health and nutrition and offer educational material. Frankie Boyer is one of my favorites, she is so well-informed on health issues that it is a pleasure to do an interview with her. Her web site frankieboyer.com has a lot of information on it, plus her blog.

Why do I do radio interviews to promote The Anger Cure? At the risk of sounding egotistical I’ll say that the Anger Cure has information that helps people gain control of their health. Most chapters begin with a test that shows if the specifics of that chapter are an issue for you or not. I have had people e-mail me about it and say that the Anger Cure saved their life and restored peace in their families. Wow, that’s a really great compliment!

But all this does is show that with a few simple changes in your lifestyle you can find better health and energy. For example I’m a nut about eating first thing in the morning, within the first half hour after getting up. Why? Because it can give you stabilized blood sugar for the rest of the day and that means better thinking, better concentration, more energy, less anger, fewer allergies, reduction in headaches, but most of all less cravings for the things that are not so good for your body.

Do you want to give up smoking, painlessly? Stabilize your blood sugar! The instructions are in the Anger Cure.

Do you want to sleep better at night and less during the day? Read the Anger Cure and follow the instructions.

Do you want to have more joy and less anger and depression? The Anger Cure is all about that. It’s the reason I wrote it. Thousands of people have used the system outlined in the Anger Cure to overcome fatigue, poor concentration, addictions, and depression, not just anger and rage.
